Tyrannochromis nigriventer is found all around the lake, mainly in rocky environments and intermediate zones from rocks to sand. It's a species with some geographic variants which are a little different in color. The northern regions have variants with vertical drawings which are more present. This variant can be found in the neighbourhood of the Mbenji Islands. In the lake the males of these species can grow to 30 cm, females to about 22 cm. In the aquarium however they can grow taller because of a good feeding. The males can then grow to about 35 cm, females grow to about 25 cm. Tyrannochromis nigriventer is a real predator. Young fish belong to his favourite meal. You can best keep this species with multiple females and other big species in a large tank. We are dealing here with a species which likes eating fish, so we'll regularly have to offer him such kind of food like living small fish, mysis, krill, artemia, shrimpmix and they eat a lot of young fish when we keep them with mbunas. |
